Find God Find Mission

FIND GOD FIND MISSION

The Missio Dei is central to a real understanding of the theology of Mission.  It can be encapsulated like this:  It’s not the church that has a mission but the God of Mission who has a church. This is not just semantics.  Mission starts in God.  Find God and one finds His mission.  The whole of scripture is about the mission of the Triune God.  Scripture is pregnant with God’s mission about God drawing men and women to himself.  Chris Wright ‘The Mission of God’ it’s within the Godhead that mission starts.  The Father sends the Son, the Father and Son commissioning and sending the spirit in perfect unity.

The Trinitarian life of the godhead is the impetus for mission.  It is modelled for us in the relational dance of the self-sustaining life of Father, Son and Spirit.  We are invited to join the dance! Mission doesn’t start with us.  Its starts in the Trinitarian life of the Father, Son and Spirit.  The Missio Dei helps us to remember that we are not the instigators or authors of mission.  We are called to listen to what the spirit is already doing and join in.  We pioneer only in as much as what God has previously done and will continue to do. (Revd. Benjamin Aldous)

AIM OF THE CONSULTATION:

Through our National Consultation on Integral Mission we want to create space to consider, as Christians, and as the church, what role we’re playing in facilitating fullness, encouraging wholeness and embracing God’s integrated approach to mission and the Kingdom.  What does the mission of God look like when it addresses people’s whole needs rather than limit itself to one or two aspects of their created-ness?  And what about us personally – are we fully God’s?  Does God have complete influence over our lives; do we totally trust him in every area, and does it show?

Come, join us and participate, as we:

  • read, wait, hear from God, and pray together
  • initiate open and honest discussions around what the principles and practice of Integral Mission means for a country like South Africa.  We’re looking to create a safe environment to develop a simple theological framework which will underpin what God requires of us
  • develop an action plan to support and encourage Integral Mission practice in and through the South African church / Christians
  • support and link existing local expressions of Integral Mission and / or start new initiatives throughout the country
