Umhlanga, Saturday 3rd August 2013

eThekwini, from the Zulu word itheku meaning ‘bay’, or the Xhosa word iteko ‘meeting place’, is the largest city in the South African province of KwaZulu-Natal and the third largest city in the country, forming part of the eThekwini metropolitan municipality.

The municipality, which includes neighboring towns, has a population of almost 3.5 million, making it the biggest city on the east coast of the African continent. The metro’s land area of 2,292 square kilometers (884.9 sq mi) is comparatively larger than other South African cities, resulting in a somewhat lower population density of 1,513 inhabitants per square kilometre (3,918.7/sq mi).

Durban is famous as the busiest port in South Africa and is also a major centre of tourism because of the city’s warm subtropical climate and extensive beaches. Watersports such as surfing, body boarding, sailing and scuba diving are obvious favourites given Durban’s proximity to the warm Indian Ocean. Rugby, soccer and cricket are also very popular with Durban boasting world class stadia for all.

Umhlanga – pronounced Umshlanga (the correct pronunciation, of “hl” is similar to the Welsh “ll”) – its a residential, commercial and resort town north of Durban. Umhlanga is named after the Ohlanga River and means “place of reeds” in isiZulu.

CONFERENCE VENUE – Grace Church, Umhlanga.

Grace Family Church is located at 400 Umhlanga Rocks Drive, KwaZulu Natal on the M4 which runs parallel to the coast between Durban and Ballito. Grace will be the location for the main Consultation.
